Every spring, cherry blossoms blanket the orchards dotting the Willamette Valley and stretching up the banks of the Columbia River basin. What began with 700 fruit tree “rootings” brought to the area by covered wagon in 1847 has matured through generations of dedicated families. Today, Oregon Cherry Growers, founded in 1932, represents a hundred growers on more than 40,000 acres of land in Oregon’s bountiful Willamette Valley and along the Columbia River Gorge, in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain range.
State-of-the-art processing
While more than half of our sweet cherry crop is processed for maraschino production, we also process and deliver fresh, frozen, brined, glacé, dried and canned cherries to the retail, foodservice and industrial ingredient markets in North, Central and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. With state-of-the-art production facilities in Salem and The Dalles, Oregon Cherry Growers is able to produce the very best in each category.
Our cherry authorities keep innovating
As the cherry authorities, we’re all about innovation. The process to preserve the “modern maraschino” was invented in Oregon, as were the popular cherry varieties—Bing, Rainier and Lambert. Our growers share information to improve cultivation, fruit quality and picking practices; while our Research and Development team works with food processors, chefs and developers to continuously create new and better ways to enjoy the sweet taste of cherries. We’re also taking our expertise in processing to other small fruit, developing new tastes and forms for blueberries and strawberries.
