What makes a perfect maraschino? We can tell you. It’s the whole plump fruit, the signature crunch and that unique flavor. Our foodservice customers also tell us it’s the highest percentage of stem-on, whole cherries in every jar, perfection to top off a favorite drink, a tasty dessert or a scrumptious sundae. How do we deliver more perfect maraschino’s than any other processor? Here’s our story.

Part of Oregon’s history

The process to create the first “modern maraschino” was invented in 1929 by Oregon State University horticulturist, Ernest Weigand. Before that, maraschinos only came from Italy—and they were expensive to import. But with Weigand’s alcohol-free process, the delightful crunch of a fresh cherry could be preserved year ‘round, and today’s maraschino had arrived! So is a maraschino a real cherry? Yes it is! Our maraschino’s are nurtured in our orchards, picked carefully and then preserved and flavored to perfection.

Our maraschinos have become a tradition around the world—as a sweet treat atop a sundae, turning ginger ale into a Shirley Temple, or adding cheer to all kinds of seasonal celebrations. We’re delighted to know that they’ve become the stuff of childhood legends—and “a cherry on top” means it’s something special!
